ChatGPT is already open on most safety managers' screens. What it cannot do, on its own, is see a single incident, inspection or action in your system. The Safety Space MCP connector fixes that. Connect it once and ChatGPT can answer "which corrective actions are overdue?" from your live Safety Space records, draft the monthly safety report, and log a near miss when you tell it to.
Can I connect my safety management system to ChatGPT?
Yes, if the system is Safety Space. The connector uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard ChatGPT uses to connect to outside tools and data. Through it, ChatGPT can:
- Answer questions about incidents, near misses, inspections, audits, permits, training and corrective actions, with charts and tables.
- Generate incident and investigation reports, monthly and board safety reports, and inspection and audit summaries, which you can export.
- Log an incident, raise a corrective action or update a record when you ask, within your permissions.
- Recommend next actions based on what the data shows.
The same connector works with Claude and Microsoft Copilot. The main Safety Space AI page has the full list of example questions.
What changes when ChatGPT can see your safety data
Before the connector, using ChatGPT with safety data meant exporting the incident register to a spreadsheet, uploading it, and hoping nobody noticed the worker names in column C. After the connector, you ask the question and the right records come back under your own login. Nothing is exported. The guide to using ChatGPT for WHS work covers why the export route is a privacy problem.
A few things people ask once it is connected:
- "How many near misses did Site B record last quarter, and what were the top three categories?"
- "Write the investigation report for the forklift incident at the Dandenong warehouse on 14 October."
- "Show the trend in manual handling injuries over the last 12 months as a chart."
- "Which contractors on site today have not completed the induction?"
- "Raise an action for the Dandenong warehouse to repair the damaged pedestrian barrier, due Friday, assigned to the site manager."
How do I connect Safety Space to ChatGPT?
The Safety Space team sets up the MCP connector for your organisation during onboarding. There is nothing to install and no API keys for your team to manage. Once it is live, your people ask ChatGPT about safety data the same way they ask it anything else. If your organisation uses a ChatGPT workspace with an administrator, we work with them on the connection.
Permissions, privacy and control
- Same permissions as the user. ChatGPT sees only the sites, modules and records that person's Safety Space login can see.
- Read and write, logged. The connector can create and update records within the user's permissions. Every change is recorded in the audit trail against their name.
- No training on your data. Customer safety data is not used to train AI models.
- Only what the question needs. The connector returns the records relevant to the question, not an export of your account.
- Revocable. A Safety Space administrator can disconnect ChatGPT at any time.
The privacy and permissions page covers each of these and how they fit the Australian and New Zealand Privacy Acts.
Frequently asked questions
Which safety software has a ChatGPT integration?
Safety Space, through an MCP connector that also works with Claude and Microsoft Copilot.
Can ChatGPT generate a safety report from my data?
With Safety Space connected, yes. Ask for the report and Safety Space AI builds it from your live records. Without a connector, ChatGPT can only work from text you paste in.
Is it safe to connect ChatGPT to our safety data?
Through the connector, ChatGPT sees what the user can see, gets only the records a question needs, and nothing is used for training. Access is logged and can be revoked.
Does it work on the ChatGPT mobile app?
The connector is tied to your ChatGPT account, not a device, so the questions you can ask on desktop you can ask on mobile.
Do we need Safety Space to use this?
Yes. The connector gives ChatGPT access to data in Safety Space. It cannot reach safety records held in spreadsheets or another system.
