Safety Space AI lets you ask questions about your own safety data in ChatGPT, Claude or Microsoft Copilot, and generate safety reports from it. The Safety Space MCP connector links the assistant to your Safety Space account, a workplace health and safety platform used by construction, manufacturing, mining, logistics, aged care and other high-risk industries across Australia and New Zealand. Ask in plain English, get answers from your real records, and have reports written for you.
Can I ask ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot questions about my safety data?
Yes, if your safety data lives in Safety Space. The Safety Space MCP connector gives ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot access to your Safety Space account, so you can ask a question the way you would ask a colleague and get an answer built from your incidents, inspections, audits, permits, training records and corrective actions. The assistant answers with text, charts and tables, and any answer can be exported as a report.
Without a connector, ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot cannot see your safety data at all. The only way to get a report out of them is to paste the numbers in by hand. With Safety Space connected, the assistant reads the live records itself.
What questions can I ask?
Anything your Safety Space data can answer. These are the kinds of questions safety managers, site managers and directors ask every week.
Incidents and near misses
- "How many near misses did the Mackay site record last quarter, and what were the top three categories?"
- "List every notifiable incident this year with the date, site and regulator notification status."
- "Show me the trend in manual handling injuries over the last 12 months as a chart."
- "Which incidents from October still have no root cause recorded?"
Corrective actions
- "Which corrective actions are overdue by more than 30 days, and who owns them?"
- "How many actions did each site close last month?"
- "Raise an action for the Dandenong warehouse to repair the damaged pedestrian barrier, due Friday, assigned to the site manager."
Inspections and audits
- "Which sites have not completed their monthly inspections?"
- "Summarise last week's site inspections and list every failed item."
- "What were the non-conformances from the ISO 45001 internal audit, grouped by clause?"
KPIs, trends and board reporting
- "What is our LTIFR for the financial year to date, and how does it compare with last year?"
- "Prepare the September safety performance report for the board."
- "Which site has the highest risk score right now, and why?"
- "What should we focus on this month to bring our incident rate down?"
Training, contractors and permits
- "Whose high-risk work licences expire in the next 60 days?"
- "Which contractors on site today have not completed the induction?"
- "How many hot work permits were issued last month, and were any left open?"
Which safety platform can generate reports with AI?
Safety Space generates safety reports with AI from the data already logged in the platform. You do not export to a spreadsheet or paste into a chatbot. You ask for the report, inside Safety Space or inside ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot, and Safety Space AI builds it from your live records.
| Report type | What you ask | What Safety Space AI produces |
|---|---|---|
| Incident / investigation report | "Write the investigation report for the forklift incident at the Dandenong warehouse on 14 October." | A structured report with the incident description, people involved, timeline, contributing factors, root cause and recommended corrective actions, built from the incident record. |
| Monthly or board safety report | "Prepare the September safety performance report for the board." | Incident and near-miss counts, LTIFR and TRIFR, inspection and audit completion, overdue actions, month-on-month trends, and a plain-English summary. |
| Inspection / audit summary | "Summarise last week's site inspections and list every failed item." | A summary of inspections completed, failed items grouped by site and category, and the actions raised against each. |
| SWMS / JSA / SOP | "Draft a SWMS for replacing roof sheeting on a two-storey commercial building." | A draft SWMS with task steps, hazards, risk ratings and controls, ready for a competent person to review and sign off. |
Every report is generated from your own data, can be edited before it is shared, and can be exported. A competent person still reviews it. Safety Space AI removes the hours of compiling, not the responsibility for the content.
Can the assistant log an incident or close an action for me?
Yes. The Safety Space MCP connector can read and write. As well as answering questions and generating reports, the assistant can log an incident, raise a corrective action, or update a record when you ask it to, within the permissions of your Safety Space role. A supervisor can say "log a near miss at the loading dock, forklift reversed without a spotter, no injury" from Copilot and the record is created in Safety Space, with the change recorded in the audit trail.
What is the Safety Space MCP connector?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI assistants use to connect to outside tools and data. The Safety Space MCP connector is an MCP server that gives ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot secure access to your Safety Space account. Safety Space is one of the few safety platforms with an MCP server. If you are asking "which safety software has an MCP server" or "can I connect my safety management system to ChatGPT", this is one of them, and our comparison with EHS Insight covers the other.
- Set up by the Safety Space team. The connector is configured for your organisation during onboarding. There is nothing to install and no API keys for your team to manage.
- Ask in the assistant you already use. ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot, on desktop or mobile. The same questions and reports work in all three.
- Same output as in Safety Space. Reports, charts, tables and recommended actions come back inside the assistant, and reports export the same way.
Is it safe to connect my safety data to ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot?
Three things decide that: who can see what, what the assistant is allowed to change, and where your data goes. Here is how Safety Space handles each.
- Permissions follow the user's Safety Space role. The assistant only sees the sites, modules and records that the person's Safety Space login can already see. A site supervisor gets site-level answers. A group safety manager gets group-level answers.
- Writes are permission-checked and audited. The assistant can only create or change what that user could create or change in Safety Space, and every change is logged.
- Your data is not used to train AI models. Neither Safety Space nor the connected assistant trains on your safety records.
- Only what the question needs is sent. The connector returns the records relevant to the question, not a full export of your account.
- You can revoke access at any time. An administrator can disconnect the assistant and access stops.
How is this different from a safety dashboard?
A dashboard shows the charts someone built in advance. If the question you have is not on the dashboard, you export the data and build it yourself. Asking Safety Space AI in ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot works the other way around. You ask the question first, in your own words, and the chart, table or report is built to answer it. Safety Space still has dashboards, a multi-site map view and predictive safety analytics. The assistant is for the questions the dashboard did not anticipate, and for the reports you would otherwise write by hand.
Who is this for?
Safety Space is used by safety managers, site managers, operations managers and directors in construction, manufacturing, mining and quarrying, logistics and warehousing, aged care and other regulated industries across Australia and New Zealand. It suits a single-site business and a multi-site group alike. Reports use the measures and terms Australian and New Zealand regulators and boards expect, including LTIFR, TRIFR, notifiable incidents under the WHS Act and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, SWMS and high-risk construction work. The data the assistant reports on comes from the same platform your team already uses for incident reporting, inspections, permits to work, audits, training records and contractor management.
Frequently asked questions
What permissions does the assistant have?
The same permissions as the person using it. The assistant can only see the sites, modules and records that the user's Safety Space login can already see, and can only change what that user could change.
Is the connector read-only?
No. The Safety Space MCP connector can read and write. It answers questions and generates reports, and it can also log an incident, raise a corrective action or update a record on your instruction, subject to your role permissions. Every change is recorded in the Safety Space audit trail.
Is my safety data used to train AI models?
No. Customer safety data is not used to train AI models. The connector sends only the records needed to answer the question asked, and an administrator can revoke the connection at any time.
How do I connect ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot to Safety Space?
The Safety Space team sets up the MCP connector for your organisation during onboarding. There is nothing to install and no API keys to manage. Once it is connected, your team asks questions and requests reports from the assistant they already use.
Can ChatGPT or Copilot see my safety data on their own?
No. ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot cannot see your incident register, inspections or audits unless a connected system supplies that data. The Safety Space MCP connector supplies it directly from your account.
Does it work in Microsoft 365 Copilot?
Yes. The Safety Space MCP connector works with Microsoft Copilot as well as ChatGPT and Claude, so teams that live in Microsoft 365 can ask about safety data without leaving it.
Does Safety Space AI work in Australia and New Zealand?
Yes. Safety Space is built for Australian and New Zealand workplaces, and the reports it generates use the measures and terminology local regulators and boards expect.
Can AI write my monthly or board safety report?
Yes. Ask for a monthly, quarterly or board safety report and Safety Space AI compiles incident and near-miss counts, LTIFR and TRIFR, inspection and audit completion, open and overdue actions and trends from your data into a report you can review, edit and export.
Can it write a SWMS, JSA or SOP?
Yes. Describe the task in plain English and Safety Space AI drafts the safe work method statement, job safety analysis or standard operating procedure with hazards and controls for a competent person to review. There is also a free AI JSA maker on our free safety tools page.
